Liebe : A luxe Staple
Posted on 02 September 2017
It was a hot summer day and I dressed appropriately in corporate attire. I adorned a sleeveless blouse with a midi skirt. There was only one problem. Once I got to work, the ac was blasting since everybody started complaining about the heat. The eight hours spent was pure torture. I started talking to my other female colleagues and started making mental notes. In the end I came up with couple of criteria for the Liebe (German word for love) dress design.
- It had to have sleeves.
- The fit had to be just right.
- It has to look chic.
- The fabric has to be comfortable.
- It can be worn all seasons.
- Day-to-night, Casual-to-cocktail
- It had to have neutral colors.
These were the minimum expectations. The list was piling up and I had to get to work. After some deductive reasoning I decided the silhouette to be a shift dress; but the fabric had to have some give. A shift dress would allow you to breathe instead of feeling stuck in a tight fitting outfit. Especially for work, when the last thing you want to worry about is "I just want to go home and wear my pajamas". To take shelter from the cold office weather I designed this dress to have sleeves. Yes, sleeveless dresses give flexibility of being able to wear during summer or winter. I think a lot of designers think about that aspect. Unfortunately, I have a hard time finding dresses with sleeves. The day I just want to throw something on and not worry about my body, I need a dress that will do just that.
This fabric just falls so beautifully. I had the urge to over design; but I stopped myself after some hard fought mental momentum. Sometimes the fabric just has to speak for itself.
Some women would say shift dress can make you look frumpy because it does not have body hugging properties. I absolutely disagree. This fabric has quite a bit of stretch; believe it or not. If you choose the right size then it will just hug your body the right amount and you will end up appreciating how forgiving this dress is while giving you the curve at the right places.
It is really such an investment. I dare you to try it. I am one of those people who likes to think of clothes as investment pieces. I have pants that are more than a decade old that people still complement me on. Time and time again I keep going back to those pieces. All hell breaks loose when I need them and regretfully find them in the laundry basket. This dress will be your trusted companion. Pinstripe is not going out of style anytime soon. Yet, this is not like your regular lbd. It is just better than that. With a price tag of 89.99 which is carrying you for most of the year; this is such a steal.
This is not a trendy piece. This is an investment piece.
